| "Home sweet home" is the phrase which commonly crosses our mind when we return home after a very tiring day or a long business trip. Since home is the place where we are always welcome and safe, where our soul has a rest in a pleasant atmosphere, where we raise our children, share our joys and sorrows and spend a good part of our time in. So, to make our home as comfortable as possible we should know more about building materials we use to renovate our houses or to build our dream homes.
The most important building material is surely brick. There is a rich choice of brick textures at our disposal at present.
Fibre cement is believed to be a most stable and durable home building material. It consists of cellulose fiber material, silica sand, Portland cement, water and additives. Fibre cement can be used in high-moisture areas. Siding sheets are made from wet fibre, sand and cement.
Stucco is mostly used to cover inside and outside walls & for adornment of the background of a wall. Despite of its obvious advantage connected with its low maintenance, stucco has a number of unfavorable characteristics. First, it is neither durable nor stable. Hence, any cracks and breaks which emerge on the exterior require repairing. Secondly, it is sensitive to humidity and, therefore, unsuited for usage in high-moisture areas.
Timber is another all-purpose building material. It is quite often used for siding of outer walls and shields a house from weather conditions. When choosing a building material for siding, it is recommended to consider its appearance, maintenance it will require, insulation value, financial expenses, sensitivity to climatic conditions of your area etc. Consider vinyl, cement, steel and aluminum g for this purpose.
Steel is a generally used building material, as it is well-known for its durability and low maintenance. It is fire-proof and recyclable as well.
Roofing is an essential part of home building. The most suited building materials are fiber-cement shingles, wood shakes and asphalt shingles. Fibre-cement shingles are heavier in comparison to asphalt shingles. However, the best roofing material is wood shakes due to their well-known insulation.
There are 5 major types of kitchen countertop materials such as solid surfacing, natural stone, laminate, ceramic tile and wood. Laminate is thought to be the best suited option out of the five.
It is important to remember that buying suitable building materials for your home ensures that your house will be comfortable and pleasant to live in and will require (which is important!) low maintenance. |
