The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration has made it mandatory for workers working high above the ground to receive adequate training in the use of safety equipments and safe work practices as a part of its regulations for governing labor safety at construction sites. The frequency and nature of the training provided falls under the purview 1926.503 of OSHA regulations. All employers are supposed to provide adequate training for those employees who are likely to be at risk for falling hazards. The training programs as implemented by the employers should teach the workers how to identify the risks associated with falling and how to minimize them by employing proper systems and techniques for fall arrest. The employees should be provided by a certified trainer for teaching them all about safety hazards. The topics for training should include the nature of fall hazards, the proper methods for implementation and the correct usage and maintenance of fall protection systems. If a safety monitoring system is being used, then the employees should be taught about their role in its usage. Also, the restrictions on safety equipments for low sloped roofs should be taught to the employees. The handling and storing of different materials and equipments as well as the construction of overhead protection should be included in the training topics. Lastly, all the employees should be aware of their role in the fall protection plans as drafted by the employer. A written documentation that details the training received by the employees has to be maintained by the employer. The identity of the employees and the date of the training along with the signature of the trainer has to be specifically recorded by the employer. If, at all, the training of an employee was received by another employer, the date of that training should be entered, reflecting the latest date of training. Employees should be retrained whenever the employer has a cause to believe that the employee no longer possesses the necessary safety skills. This can be due to the changes in the workplace or the changes in the different types of protective equipments used. Retraining may also be required in cases of change in environment or equipments used at the work site. To teach the employees about all these safety hazards, different courses have been introduced. The employees are trained in safe work practices and the usage of personal protective equipments.
