In the XXI century the desk computer has been replaced with the LAPTOP,as it is compact, portable and mobile. You can take it on board an airplane, on a ship or elsewhere and keep working etc. The only drawback is that its battery needs re-charging. After a few hours of exploitation the battery gets discharged and you have to re-charge it for further exploitation. Laptop manufacturers have not designed a laptop yet which can run all day long. nonetheless, several crutial steps have been made to extend battery's life. There are 3 main types of laptop batteries. Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) laptop batteries were the first rechargeable batteries. They did not cost much and had a high output. Nevertheless, they were quite heavy and are not exploited today any more. Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries are unsuitable for laptops of the new generation. Their output is higher in comparison with NiCd batteries. Furthermore, they are cheaper and safer. The only downside is the so-called memory effect they have. If the battery has not discharged completely, it will remember it and will produce less power than it can do. Lithium Ion (LiON) laptop batteries are generally installed in laptops of the new generation. They are lighter comparing with NiCd and NiMH laptop batteries and have no memory effect. Nonetheless, LiON batteries are rather expensive. Actually the price for a laptop depends upon how long you can use your laptop. So, it largely depends upon purposes you use your laptop for. If you travel widely, you definitely need an extended energy source. If time has come to replace your laptop battery, remember that it should be compatible with a laptop model, in spite of the fact that a lot of laptop batteries nowadays are compatible with all models. Then consider two main ratings on it: Volts and Milliamps. The voltage should be within 10% of the original battery voltage. When you buy a laptop battery, always seek the one with the biggest Milliamps. An external laptop battery is connected to a laptop via an AC adapter plug consisting of an adaptor, a cord as well as 13 other connectors. When you buy an AC adapter, make sure that it will correspond to the voltage and current output. This information is commonly submitted on labels of a laptop and on the original adaptor. The character 'V' denotes voltage and 'A' or 'mA' - current output. The voltage figure is to be within 10% of your original adaptor voltage. The Amps figure can be higher but should not be lower comparing to the original current output. Ensure that the tip dimentions of an AC adaptor and the shape of a battery you have chosen are identical to the original ones. It goes without saying that any device should be used properly. Laptop power sources are no exception. Keep and use them following safety regulations and they will serve you long.
