Today because of the unbearable summer heat, the air conditioning system has turned into an absolute necessity rather than luxury. The air conditioner was first developed by Stuart Cramer, but the word was coined by W. Carrier. The scientific invention helps people in many ways. For instance, when the air cooler was launched and installed in a Houston theatre, the number of people who visited the theatre gradually went up. Air conditioners decrease air humidity and maintain its quality. There are air conditioning systems that dry the air without cooling it. The major components of the AC are a condenser, an evaporator and a compressor. It also uses a chemical that converts gas into liquid and vice versa. There exist two types of air conditioning systems: a split and a package system. In the split system, the condenser and the compressor are installed outside the room and the evaporator designed for circulating the air around the room is placed inside the room. In the package system, all constituents are installed outside the room. There are small, mid-sized and large-sized air conditioners. The most widely used AC is the window air conditioner that is placed on a window and designed for cooling a particular room. If more than one room is to be cooled, select a split or a mini-split AC, hinging on how many rooms you want to cool. The most widespread ones are portable air conditioners that can be moved around. For cooling the whole house you should install central air conditioners. Portable air conditioning systems are beneficial, since you can install them in whichever room you wish. It is a movable unit and it has wheels so that you can easily roll it from one room to another. The only downside of the AC is monthly electricity bills that can adversely impact upon one's pocket. Nevertheless, here are a few handy tips to help you reduce the amount of consumed electricity and, therefore, bills: • Do not place the AC where the sun faces it directly. This makes the air conditioning consume more electricity for cooling your room. • Do not purchase a large-sized air conditioning system for a small room. • When the air conditioning is on, keep doors and windows closed. By exploiting the air conditioner rationally, you can minimize your expenses.
